The roots of Phi Lambda Rho stem from Flor de Aztlan, a support group for women pursuing higher education at California State University, Stanislaus, established by our Founding Mothers. After much thought, our Founding Mothers decided to take Flor de Aztlan to another level and did so by creating and establishing a brand new sorority known as Phi Lambda Rho, which reads Flor in Greek. Phi Lambda Rho was formally established on November 13, 1993. In doing so, Phi Lambda Rho became the first Chicana/Latina based sorority at California State University, Stanislaus. Today Phi Lambda Rho continues to uphold the principles of Academic Achievement, Sisterhood, Community Service, and Promotion of the Chicana Latina Culture.
