Sisterhood

We are sisters united by our love for Phi lambda Rho, for our passion to make a difference in our communities, and for our shared value towards succeeding in our education.
Our sisterhood symbolizes an additional family away from home, one that seeks to support and inspire sisters to reach their highest potential. Though we are all individually unique, we add to the richness of this sisterhood and together under the same mission, we are able to grow and thrive. We recognize the continued support of each and every sister has on our own development and for that we are thankful. Phi Lambda Rho is a representation of a sisterhood that transcends our college years, that only grows deeper, and that lasts a lifetime. To help foster such good sisterhood among Rhosas, chapters organize various sisterhood retreats, dinners, weekly activities and other celebrations to maintain the sisterhood strong.

Chicana /Latina Culture

Phi Lambda Rho believes that we must understand who we are in order to understand others. We work towards deconstructing and constructing our identities as Chicana/Latinas, as women of color, and as minorities to empower and motivate ourselves. We recognize the value of our identity and how it changes and it makes a difference in our lives. We believe in cultivating honor in our culture, in our families’ stories, and struggles. As a Chicana/Latina based organization, Phi Lambda Rho works towards being strong and positive role models on campus. Each Rhosa has a unique and diverse upbringing, story, and perspective that adds to the beauty and to the ever changing image of Phi Lambda Rho. Although we are a Chicana/Latina based organization, we celebrate the ethnic differences, as well as diversity among our sisters, and we welcome all women who also recognize and embrace their culture.

Academic Excellence

The ladies of Phi Lambda Rho carry a vision of being strong educated and conscious Chicana/Latina women. We see the value of growth in knowledge, to learn more about ourselves, and to prepare for our future careers. Using the support system we attain from one another, we believe that the pursuit of higher education does not end at 4-5 years, but rather it continues onto the pursuit of our Masters and/or Doctorate degrees. In the same way that our families support us in our educational endeavors, the sisters of Phi Lambda Rho support each other in reaching our academic and professional goals, utilizing the resources we have in college, as well as encouraging one another to apply to graduate school. As Chicana/Latina students, we strive towards helping our fellow Latina peers, as well as future Latina students navigate college successfully. The Rhosas are not only sisters of Phi Lambda Rho, but we are also researchers, scholars, and the professional leaders of tomorrow.

Community Service

Phi Lambda Rho values the importance of community service as a learning and rewarding experience. Each Rhosa comes from a different community where our family, our culture, and our experiences have influenced our value towards social justice and our passion to serve our people. The sisters of Phi Lambda Rho strive towards understanding how we could best serve as models of hope and support to our communities. One of our main goals as an organization is to continue building awareness for ourselves and for others about what is going on in our communities. We care about educating the college campus about issues that are important to Phi Lambda Rho as well as setting a strong foundation of service values that will be passed down to future sisters. We believe in using the opportunities we have as students to collaborate with our peers, as well as with community groups and leaders to support local outreach events and non-profit organizations who share our value of making a difference. By being active members in our communities, we learn to connect to our roots, to challenge ourselves and to gain experience that can prepare us for our future careers.
